Company History
Over two decades of innovation in SiC lubrication technology
John Murray and Jon Saferstein crossed paths in 2001. Their collaboration created a revolutionary technology for the lubrication industry: SiC Lubrication — the first time Silicon Carbide nanotechnology could be delivered through motor oil.
Starting in a garage in Gardena, California, Murray and Saferstein spent 6 years in real-world and laboratory testing before Cerma was ready for market. Dea Shores joined the team and Cerma opened offices outside Dallas, TX.
Starting with Cerma STM-3 Engine Treatment, the product line rapidly expanded to include transmissions, drivetrains, 2-cycle engines, motorcycles, diesels, and large semi-trucks.
Cerma Motor Oil launched with CERMA (15K) and CERMAX (30K) blends. The same year, Cerma STM-3 received government-verified 2.1% fuel savings from the Canadian ETV Program at Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Test Centre, Blainville, Quebec.
Globe Performance Solutions, Vancouver BC, issued Cerma Industries LLC an ISO 14034:2016 Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) statement on August 15, 2017.

The Team
Chief Technology Officer / Founder / Inventor
John Murray is the inventor of Cerma STM-3 SiC Lubrication Technology. With a background in automotive engineering, Murray developed the original SiC lubrication process in 2001 and has led Cerma’s technology development ever since. As CTO, he continues to innovate and develop new methods and applications for Cerma’s revolutionary SiC technology.
Co-Founder
Jon Saferstein brought his background in manufacturing to the original collaboration with John Murray in 2001. His expertise in manufacturing processes was the perfect complement to Murray’s automotive engineering knowledge — the combination that allowed the SiC discovery to be taken to market. Saferstein remains a key part of the Cerma team.
